The Fish Beer Festival One

Still well behind with my beer reviews, they are all there, they just need publishing.

Last night was the first night of the Fisherman's Arms beer festival and even though I wasn't there long, I now have a much larger backlog of beers.

All seemed to be going well when we left and I hope it remains like that for the next three days, Dot and I will be back there on Sunday.

Lidl

Yesterday, I got another two new Belgian beers, to go with the six I got last week. Lidl is looking up lately. The new beers were £4.99 or a four pack, £1.25 each, I got a pack of blonde and a pack of Amber. Last week it was presentation sixpack of Belgian beers for £10, £1.66 each, I have had three of them before but they are great beers, hope the other three are as good.
Here is one of them that I had last year, it is one of my all time favorites.

Van Steenberge, Gulden Draak from Belgium

10.5% very dark red in colour with a thin head, lot of fruit in the aroma and the taste is very complex, it was like eating a quarter pound of Midget Gems in one go (this is a UK thing I think), Lyons Midget Gems that is, not Maynards and it is strong, a new favourite for me.

Royal Wedding beer

The other new beer on Saturday was was another Royal Wedding beer.

Marston's, Perfect Union from England
3.8% amber colour with a good head, liquorish aroma, subtle toffee taste, nice and by far the better of the two Royal Wedding beers I had.

Jennings on a Saturday night

I had two bottles of Jennings beers last night, one was quite nice the other one wasn't.  Strange that I was drinking Jennings from Cumbria at home, as Mick and Bren where probably drinking it in Keswick at the sam time.

The good one, Jennings, Bitter from England
3.5% amber colour with a good head, hop and malt aroma, very nice bitter taste.



The poor one, Jennings, Kiss Me Kate, from England.
4.0% gold colour with a good head, hop aroma, bitter hop taste but I did not like it, a gimmicky beer for the Royal wedding.

Lots of new beers

I have been very lucky over the last couple of weeks, and have amassed quite a few new beers, some I have found myself and several supplied by friends, so my thanks go to Jon, Paul and Tony. I now have so many beers it will take some time to review them all here.
To start here is one from last Saturday.

McMullen, Hertford Castle from England
5.0% gold colour with a thin head, very little aroma, slight taste of Stilton cheese (according to Jonathan I could not place it).

Been Busy

I have been very busy with all these holidays and weddings and stuff but here are last weekends beers.

One that I liked and one that I will not be buying again anytime soon.

Springhead, The Leveller from England
4.8% dark red colour with a thin head, chocolate aroma, bitter chocolate and treacle toffee taste, not to my taste.  It was Brewed in the style of Belgian trappist ales, well I didn't like it. 




And Wadworth, Bishops Tipple from England.
5.5% amber colour with a thin head, nice fruity aroma, bitter grapefruit taste, much better but it seams to have lost 1.0% from its strength.
