The first Beers in January 2018

Well its about time I got started on this years beers, I have not had too many but it will take some time to get through them all.

Birre Morreti, alla Toscana from Italy

 

5,5% gold in colour with a thin head, low in aroma but a slight hop, slightly sweet mild hoppy taste

Birra Moretti, alla Siciliana from Italy

 

5.8% gold in colour with a thin head, low in aroma but nice mild taste

Stroud, Budding from England

 

4.5% cloudy yellow in colour with a decent head, although the taste wasn't too bad at all

Alnwick, Alnwick Amber Ale from England

 

3,8% amber in colour with a nice head, a pretty nice but ordinary bitter.

Lindisfarne, Holy Island Bitter from England

 

3,8% amber in colour with a nice head, another pretty nice but ordinary bitter.

Christmas Beers 2017

Well its time for the Christmas beers again, and again as last year, not got many at all, I didn't get out much at all to the pubs and the shops were pretty poor with their selections again.

4.0% deep cold in colour with a nice head, not too much of a Christmas tasting beer

Saltaire, White Christmas from England

4.6% gold in colour with a good head, not a bad beer but not really any Christmas taste

Sonnet 43, Create Those Moments from England

4.2% deep brown in colour with a good head, slightly spicy aroma and a nice malty spice taste.

Adnams, Marks & Spencer Southwold Christmas Ale from England

 

4.2% deep red in colour with a thin head, slightly spice aroma, nice bitter taste with a hint of Christmas

Ackerland, Biere De Noel from France

 

5.8% pale amber with a thin head, spice aroma and a nice slightly sweet taste

Beers from our Whitby Trip

A few days after our trip to Barnard Castle we went to Whitby for a few days and I will log all the beers we had there. It was still September but we were away for Dot's holidays, as my mother was ill we were just taking short breaks close to home, so that we could get back if needed.

Whitby Brewery, Saltwick Nab from England

4.2% beep amber in colour with a nice head, malt aroma and a nice sweet toffee taste.

Springhead, Drop O' The Black Stuff from England

4.0% black in colour with a nice head, roast malt aroma and a malty liquorice, a nice bitter taste

Whitby Brewery, IPA from England

5.2% gold in colour with a thin head, hop aroma and a fruity hop taste.

Yorkshire Brewery, Two Chefs Honey Beer from England

4.0% gold in colour with a thin head, slight honey aroma and a sweet honey taste.

Copper Dragon, Silver Myst from England

4.0% gold colour with a good head, aroma is not like pils nor is the taste, it is a smooth and slightly sweet bitter.

Rudgate, Ruby Mild from England

4.4% deep ruby red colour with a good head, malt aroma, chocolate and toffee taste, a bit on the strong side for a mild it's more like a dunkel.

George Gale, Seafarers from England

3.6% pale amber in colour with a good head, low aroma and not much to the taste but an ordinary bitter.

Beers from our Barnard Castle Trip

On our last trip to Barnard Castle in September, I had a few new beers and a couple I had had before but I will cover them all here.

Black Sheep, Baa Baa from England

4.0% gold in colour with a poor head, it was just like all new beers in this country, gold, hoppy and average. I used the older photo here but I did have it again but by accident.

Grey Hawk, Pippin from England

3.9% gold in colour with a poor head, not much aroma and a bitter hop taste.

Pt. Multi Bintang, Bintang Bir Pilsener from Indonesia

 

4.7% gold colour with a very thin head, slight malt aroma and taste, it was ok in the heat of Bali and still not bad here at home.

Sonnet 43, Aurora from England

4.4% gold in colour with a nice head, citrus aroma, it also has a citrus taste.

Consett, White Hot from England

4.0% gold colour with a good head, not much aroma but a mild hoppy lager taste. Another old one that I have had before.

Heineken Italia, Ichnusa from Italy (Sardinia)

 

4.7% pail gold with a nice head, not much aroma and a light lager taste. Had this one in the Italian.

Latest, made for ALDI

These are some of the small bottles brewed for ALDI, I think there are more but I will have to add them later.

Twickenham Fine Ales (ALDI), Red Rye IPA from England

 

4.7% amber in colour with a nice head, a citrus IPA aroma and a nice hoppy taste.

Brains (ALDI), Spill The Beans Coffee Porter from England

 

4.4% deep red in colour with a poor head, as it said on the bottle it had chocolate and caramel in the aroma and taste.

Hogs Back (ALDI), Sunny Dayz from England

 

3.8% gold in colour with a thin head, sweet hoppy aroma, not too hoppy a taste in fact quite nice.

4.5% gold in colour with a thin head, faint hop aroma, really nice citrus hop and malt taste.

Sadler's (ALDI), Land of Liberty American Style IPA from England

 

5.0% gold in colour with a thin head, hop aroma and a zesty hop taste.

Real Ale and Craft Beer???

Just a note to say that to me, Beer is Beer, no matter what it is (lager, beer, stout, wheat, you get it), most I like, some are dreadful, but as a beer drinker the terms Real Ale and Craft Beer do not mean a thing to me. If a beer tasted good then it is good, if it tastes bad then it is bad (to me that is) and some Real Ales are pretty bad, it is just one of those things.

I am getting old and have drank many, many, beers, sometimes I think I should pack it in and just drink what I like but no I will carry on for a few years yet. The thing is, I enjoy what I do, even with the foul beers I have tried (and I mean foul) have been worth it, now I know not to get them again.

August 2017

Here are three of the beers I had in August, as usual I am trying to catch up, the holiday in July and the amount of beers I had then have made it harder. These are all follow ups to brewers that I have done before.

Charnwood, IPA from England

 

5.8% amber in colour with a nice head, slight toffee aroma and a bitter hoppy taste.

Richmond, Drummer Boy from England

 

3.8% amber in colour with a thin head, nice bitter aroma it had a strange bitter taste.

Shepherd Neame, Artesian Light Ale from England

 

3.8% gold in colour with a poor head, an ordinary bitter aroma and a bitter taste.
